We absolutely love when we get to cover a story about the real estate community giving back. Rick Davidson, CEO of Century 21, isn’t scaling one mountain for charity, he’s scaling a bunch of them.
The event is hoping to raise money for kids with disabilities, in an effort to help them reach summits of their own.
You can participate in the charity drive by going to the Facebook page. They’ll be reporting live, and keeping everyone up-to-date on what is happening throughout the duration of the event. You can check out the photo and videos they will be taking along the way. You can even leave message to those climbing.
It’s a great event, and it’s for a wonderful cause, Easter Seals.
Next up, we’ve been getting some feedback from the viewers about all the tech and social media talk. Everyone seems to want to dive in, but can’t find the time. Well, we have a few ideas about “time management”.
You can’t manage time.
This seems to be the most obvious, but you can’t manage time. The best you can hope to accomplish is to better manage yourself. If you’re anything like me the biggest time suck is the computer. More specifically the internet. Rescue Time is a great program to get for your computer to measure your activity online and off, to see where you might be having time related issues. If that isn’t your issue, just take a recap of your day, every day, for about a week. You this data to find patterns and make adjustments from there. You can’t add hours to the day, but you can certainly spend them better.

I don’t think I’ve met too many real estate professionals that don’t currently have this issue, or that hasn’t battled with it in the past, needing to be accessible 24/7. Most people in the industry feel like if they have to available all the time, no matter what, and really this isn’t the case. Sure you might have a few hard headed people that if they can’t get you on one ring they’re on to the next guy, but most issues, the non-deal breaking ones, can be handled the next morning. Another great way to combat this is to develop a system where you update any necessary parties on all the deals you’re working every morning, or every other day. If you establish this rhythm people will go accustom to it, and you can get some hours in your day back.
Spend some time with the Griswolds
If you don’t get that title I got nothing for you. Seriously though, take some time off. Americans vacation less, and leave all kinds of money on the table for it. Now for your regular 9 to 5′er those dollars are left on the table from vacation days not taken. But, for those that are independent agents or self-employed, those dollars are represented in the lack of productivity you have from burn out and exhaustion. Take some time, to shift it into Neutral and recharge your batteries as often as you can. Spend some time with your family, friends or by yourself. You’ll be surprised what it can do for you.
